Формально «Тупак: Воскрешение» является монтажом интервью, архивных съемок, семейных и музыкальных видео артиста. Однако именно таким образом, утверждают авторы картины, удалось воссоздать образ «настоящего» Тупака.

В саундтрек к фильму кроме композиций Тупака входят песни рэпперов Eminem, Notorius B. I. G. и 50Cents.

В качестве консультанта съемочной группы выступала мать Шакура Афени (Afeni Shakur). Афени известна тем, что состояла в организации «Черные пантеры» (Black Panthers), с середины прошлого века боровшейся за права чернокожего населения США.

Режиссер фильма «Тупак: Воскрешение» Лорен Лейзин долгое время проработала на MTV. Ее работы — в первую очередь документальные фильмы, рассказывающие о социальных проблемах молодежи. Самой известной работой продюсера фильма Кэролин Али был триллер «Клэш» (Kla$h) 1995 года, в котором рассказывается история фотографа, влюбленного в танцовщицу, связанную с преступным миром и наркомафией.

В 2005 году картина «Тупак: Воскрешение» выдвинута на «Оскар» в категории «Документальный фильм».
